It's just past 2am, and here I am again, wide awake with too much running through my head.
Let me start with the fun part. Today was the Belgian Grand Prix, and my boy Kimi held his nerve. Coming off two rough weekends, including Silverstone, there was every reason to expect more disappointment.
Instead, he held the line and saw it out until the very last lap. What a birthday gift for his old man. After four weeks of DNFs and issues, watching him finally come through meant something. His teammate George wasn't as lucky. It felt like Kimi's bad luck simply moved over to him for the day.
Then the World Cup final wrapped up this evening. It wasn't Messi's day, and Spain took it convincingly. I don't think any other team could have dominated the way they did. My apologies to France. I thought you were the tough ones to beat; turns out Spain had other plans.
Outside of football and racing, tonight was quiet on the work front. I spent most of the evening watching the match, so it was mostly small checks here and there while I got ready for the week ahead.
And what a week it's going to be.
For the first time in Afrifama's history, we are hiring an Administration and Finance Officer. I honestly never thought I would see this day. Over the weekend, the design team put together the hiring poster, and it went out.
I haven't even checked the inbox yet, but judging by how much the post has been shared, I would bet we already have well over a hundred applications waiting.
It says something about where young people are right now, how much job instability there is, and how badly people want a shot at something stable. I'm proud that we get to be that opportunity for someone.
On top of that, I'm travelling to Nairobi this week. Afrifama will be exhibiting at the KEPSA SME Conference, and I owe a huge thank you to WIDU for making it possible.
They believed in this dream long before there was much to believe in, and having them back us on this trip means a lot. I'm looking forward to meeting other founders and creators in the SME space, both from around the country and from beyond it.
On a personal note, I hit a first this week too. After all this time working out, I finally nailed a proper squat. A small personal best, but a personal best all the same. It was the same kind of quiet win Kimi had this weekend. Maybe that's the thread through all of this: showing up, holding the line, and letting the work speak for itself over time.
I haven't had much time to write this week, but I wanted to get this down before it slipped past me. That's what's been keeping me up tonight.
If there's a lesson in any of this, I haven't fully found it yet. But I'll keep showing up and figure it out as I go.
